Pekhonen, Russian Requiem
Haydn, Mass in Time of War
“Experience Pehkonen’s remarkable Requiem featuring extracts from Boris Pasternak’s Zhivago’s Poems and Dante’s Inferno. Pehkonen’s Finnish father became separated from his parents during the 1917 war against the Russian Bolsheviks and was brought to England by a British soldier. Hear how his English son interprets poignant historical events. Then, hear us sing Haydn’s magnificent Mass, written whist Napoleon was riding roughshod over Austria’s armies.”
John Dunford – Conductor, Orchestra D’Amici
Samantha Hay – Soprano
Julianne Young – Mezzo-soprano
Stephen Newlove- Tenor
Philip Wilcox – Bass
“What an amazing experience is in store for the audience who are coming to the performance of the Pehkonen Russian Requiem. . . . The vigorous Dies Irae is unbelievable – hear the traditional mass interspersed with Pasternak poetry to bring the horrors of war to life.”
